Cut the Cake

December 9, 2011 by Jessica Fine

CUT THE CAKE-
give me a little piece
let me lick up the cream
CUT THE CAKE-
well, just a little piece
baby you know what I mean
CUT THE CAKE-
give me a little piece
a little lovin’ on the side
CUT THE CAKE-
I need a little piece
just to keep me satisfied
Chorus
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
Well it tastes so good don’t pass it all around
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
You got to cut it-down!
CUT THE CAKE-
just a little piece
of your sweet love
CUT THE CAKE-
don’t you know that I
can’t get enough
CUT THE CAKE-
want you to know that I
ain’t a greedy man
CUT THE CAKE-
don’t you know that I’ll
do the best I can
Chorus
CUT THE CAKE-
give me a little piece
let me lick up the cream
CUT THE CAKE-
well, just a little piece
baby you know what I mean
CUT THE CAKE-
give me a little piece
a little lovin’ on the side
CUT THE CAKE-
I need a little piece
just to keep me satisfied
Chorus
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
Well it tastes so good don’t pass it all around
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
Never knew you cooked the way you do
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
Tastes so good don’t pass the recipe around
gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme,
gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme that cake
You got to
cut it-DOWN
cut it-DOWN
cut it-DOWN-cut the cake-please

This song is called Cut the Cake by the Average White Band.

Adam, my parents, and I went to Catering by Andrew last night for our wedding cake tasting. We met with Andrew and discussed with him our vision of what we want our wedding cake to look like. We showed him pictures of examples that we found online of what we were describing to him.

After describing to Andrew what we wanted the cake to look like, we tried three different types/flavors of cakes. We might choose two out of the three types/flavors of cakes for the wedding. All of the cakes we tried were delicious.

We cannot wait for everyone to see and taste the cake!

Without a leg to stand on

November 23, 2011 by Adam Sowalsky

This past Sunday, Jessica and I had our first Skype conversation with the Rabbi who will be officiating at our wedding.   This being the first of such meetings, it made our upcoming wedding feel very close, even though it is only 8 months away!

After covering the basics (our Hebrew names, our parents Hebrew names) we spent some time discussing the timeline for the day.  The schedule we had constructed was pretty close but may require some tweaking next year as things come together.

Part of the reason we were discussing our and our parents Hebrew names was related to the topic of the Ketubah, the Jewish marriage document.  These names need to be spelled correctly when the Ketubah is ordered.  While I had known from my Hebrew school days that the Ketubah was designed to give brides rights under marriage, I did learn some new facts about this ancient document.  One thing that was particularly interesting for me was that towards the bottom of  Aramaic text (the Ketubah is not in Hebrew, it’s in Aramaic) was a word that was incomplete.  Specifically the letter kuf was missing it’s stem (regel, lit. “leg”), so it looked like a malformed lamed.  What I learned was that when the document is drawn up before the wedding, there needs to be some element that makes it written especially for us on the day of the wedding.  Thus, at the time of signing, the Rabbi will fill in the missing part of the letter so that the Ketubah is technically written on the day of the wedding!

We have our next Skype session in about a month.  Stay tuned: cake tasting is up next!

Fits Like a Glove

November 4, 2011 by Jessica Fine

Well not yet…

The Matron of Honor and the Bridesmaid dresses are in at Cristina’s. The girls will have to figure out how they will get their dresses (either the dress with be shipped to them at home and they will get the alterations done where they live or the dress will be held at the store until their dress alteration appointment). I cannot wait to see the girls all dolled up!

The Earrings Song

October 6, 2011 by Jessica Fine

This song explains pride for earrings. The song is sung and written by Gretchen Wilson.

The song lyrics are:

Well I finally found a sitter who’d stay late on Friday night,
So I could do some dancin’ underneath them neon lights
Get out of the kitchen do a little catchin’ up with my old man
And I couldn’t help but notice girl that you keep slinkin’ by
Stealin’ his attention with the twinkle in your eye
You’re causin’ an involuntary clenchin of the fingers on my hand
So honey move along and find a place to park yourself while you still can

Dont make me take my earrings out
Cause I’ll show you what a catfight’s all about
I’ll throw you down and mop the floor
A man like mine’s worth fightin for
Dont make me take my earrings out

And I bet I spent an hour at the bathroom vanity
Tryin to turn a mom into a ballroom beauty queen
I dont wanna mess it up but trust me honey I aint scared to break a nail
Yeah and I’d be glad to spend a night in jail
(Aw hell!)

So don’t make me take my earrings out
Cause I’ll show you what a catfight’s all about
If you come waltzin’ by once more
I’ll drag your butt right out the door
So don’t make me take my earrings out
(Ah-haw!)

So don’t make me take my earrings out
Cause I’ll show you what a catfight’s all about
I’ll throw you down and mop the floor
A man like mine’s worth fightin for
Don’t make me take my earrings out
If you come waltzin’ by once more
I’ll throw you down and mop the floor
And drag your butt right out the door
A man like mine’s worth fightin for
So dont make me take my earrings out!

This past weekend, I bought Nadri earrings that match my wedding day necklace at Lord and Taylor. I love them. They are an excellent match with my necklace. I cannot wait to wear these two pieces of jewelry on my wedding day.

Hotel Rooms

September 25, 2011 by Adam Sowalsky

Even at this early date, some of our family have inquired about hotel rooms.  Well, we finally have some information to share.

For those guests who are traveling from out-of-town, we have blocks of rooms available at the Royal Sonesta (where our ceremony and reception will be held) and at the Hotel Marlowe (across the street, in case the Sonesta sells out).  Everyone is welcome to stay where they want, but rooms reserved without our room blocks at these hotels are at rates significantly discounted from their published prices.  Please visit our hotel information page for more information.

Hey Pretty Baby With The High Heels On

September 15, 2011 by Jessica Fine

Yes, these lyrics are from Michael Jackson’s song, The Way You Make Me Feel.

Here is the video to the song:

The reason why I chose these song lyrics are because I finally got my wedding heels dyed at a store called Shoes To Dye for. I cannot wait to wear them on my wedding day. They will look stunning with my wedding gown!

Glitz and Glam

August 28, 2011 by Jessica Fine

Today, I purchased one part of my bridal jewelry (the necklace). The designer that makes the necklace is called Nadri. I had to order the necklace online since it was sold out in all of the Nordstrom stores in the United States. Once the necklace comes in, I will look for a pair of earrings to match. Since, I already have a bracelet that will match the necklace I do not need to look for one of those as well . It is gorgeous and it will look great with my gown. I cannot wait to show it off.

Marry Me

August 24, 2011 by Jessica Fine

This song has been stuck in my head for a while.

Here are the lyrics:

Forever can never be long enough for me
To feel like I’ve had long enough with you
Forget the world now we won’t let them see
But there’s one thing left to do

Now that the weight has lifted
Love has surely shifted my way
Marry Me
Today and every day
Marry Me
If I ever get the nerve to say “Hello” in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm

Together can never be close enough for me
Feel like I am close enough to you
You wear white and I’ll wear out the words I love you
And you’re beautiful
Now that the wait is over
And love and has finally shown her my way
Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say “Hello” in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm

Promise me
You’ll always be
Happy by my side
I promise to
Sing to you
When all the music dies

And marry me
Today and everyday
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say “Hello” in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Marry me
Mm-hmm

On that note, we are less than one year way from the big day! I got a phone call today that my wedding gown came in to Cristina’s. I requested a color swatch of the gown so I can take my heels to get dyed soon at Shoes to Dye For. I am so excited to have my first fitting and to try the gown on again. This will be accomplished 60 days before the wedding which is next May and by the real latest June 2012. Stay tuned…

One Fine Day

August 19, 2011 by Jessica Fine

Here are lyrics from the song “One Fine Day”:

One fine day
You’ll look at me
And then you’ll know our love was meant to be
One fine day
You’re gonna want me for your girl

The arms I long for
Will open wide
Then you’ll be proud to have me right by your side
One fine day
You’re gonna want me for your girl

Ooh, now I know you’re kind of a boy
Who only wants to run alone
I’ll keep waiting
And some day, darling
You’ll come to me when you want to settle down

Oh, one fine day
We’ll meet once more
And then you’ll want the love you threw away before
One fine day
You’re gonna want me for your girl

By: The Chiffons

Here is the video of the song:

One year from today, it will be our “One Fine Day”. I will be marrying my best friend. Time has flown by and I cannot wait for that special day to be here. There is still a lot more wedding planning to get accomplished but I know with all of our hard work and dedication everything we want for our special day will get accomplished.
