The Wedding Singers

Last night, Jessica, Cynthia, Sheldon and I went to Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge, MA where the Bill & Bo Winiker Band kicked off their “Last Thursdays” summer dinner dance series.  In addition to delicious “Zebra Cakes” we had for dessert, Upstairs on the Square was a terrific, intimate setting in which we could audition the band.

Shortly after we arrived, the band played two contemporary country songs that were fantastic covers: Need You Know by Lady Antebellum, and Amazed by Lonestar.  Last week, in anticipation of coming to their performance, we asked them to play Amazed.  And their rendition of it amazed us. (Pun intended.)

In addition to country, they played great soft music (jazz, swing, big band) that would work well for quiet dinner music and kicked it up a notch later with some MoTown.  We spoke at length with one of the band leaders, Bill Winiker, and we had a great discussion about Jewish music and the band’s reputation as a Klezmer band in addition to being a great contemporary group (no Klezmer at Upstairs, though).

I think we’ve found our wedding band.
